Describe your job.
I am the nonprofit reporter for Atlanta Business Chronicle, a weekly business newspaper. I write a Nonprofit Business column and news articles as well as handle the weekly Time Out entertainment and Corporate Caring calendar columns. In addition, I compile special sections for the Chronicle, which range from a Volunteer Inc. guide about how companies give back to the community and official guides for the BellSouth Classic and Tour Championship golf tournaments.

As another part of my job at the Chronicle, I serve as editor of ATCOMM Publishing, a joint venture with the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB). In this capacity, I am responsible for producing many of the ACVB’s visitors publications, including Atlanta Now magazine.

What time/day is best to call?
The best days to call are Thursday or Friday when we are off deadline; the paper goes to press on Wednesday night. However, I am always on some type of deadline for another publication, so the best way to reach me most likely is by e-mail at wbowmanlittler@bizjournals.com!

How do you like to be contacted? (e-mail, phone, fax, mail)
If you are pitching a story, E-mail is a wonderful time-saver, and I'm much more likely to answer an e-mail than a voice mail message. Playing phone tag is a terrible waste of time for both parties. I usually can find time to return e-mail queries.

Which topics are hot right now? Which are not?
The hottest topic for me is “breaking news” that cannot be read in any other paper! Other than that, it is government’s determination in making sure abuse does not occur within tax-exempt organizations.

What's your most memorable experience with a PR person?
It’s memorable for me every single time a PR person STILL wants me to write a story about something that already has been in another paper. Probably not so much memorable, as it is a slap in the face! However, I really appreciate the PR person who knows what a huge Atlanta Falcons fan I am and invites me to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless with Keith Brooking every year!

Anything else you'd like Atlanta's public relations industry to know?
My most key piece of advice is to get to know the reporter and what he or she writes about. The best way to see what a reporter writes about and cares about is to read their columns or stories regularly. Most newspapers have web sites that you can visit to check out what they cover as well. Our web site is atlanta.bizjournals.com.
