Describe your job.
I'm the editor of the AJC's accessAtlanta, a new weekly entertainment section. I develop and choose content, work with writers and artists, and edit copy.

What time/day is best to call?
I'm here from about 9:00 am to 7:00 pm most days. Mondays and Tuesdays are the busiest, so it's best to call on another day. There's no time of day that's best. But what's important is this: accessAtlanta is put to bed on Tuesdays, and our deadlines are generally at least a week in advance of publication. So be sure to contact us when there's time to move on a pitch if we choose to.

How do you like to be contacted? (e-mail, phone, fax, mail)
Either by phone or by email. You should also send emails and press releases to Brian P. O'Shea (bposhea@ajc.com), who manages the calendar database of events that is used for the long calendar (The Big A List) in the back of the section.

Which topics are hot right now? Which are not?
The accessAtlanta section tries to give useful information in a fun way about upcoming entertainment events in metro Atlanta. We try to target a readership in their 20s and 30s. We generally don't do trend pieces or long personality profiles.(Those can go in other sections of the AJC.) If it has to do with entertainment in Atlanta (dining, theater, music, comedy, visual arts, nightclubs, festivals, funky diversions), we want to know about it. An example of what we're interested in and NOT interested in: In our theater coverage, we're interested in, say, Dad's Garage's production of "Bat Boy: The Musical" and NOT interested in the 20th appearance of "Cats" at The Fox.

Anything else you'd like Atlanta's public relations industry to know?
We're trying to make accessAtlanta as complete as possible, so please let us know about anything you have coming up that would fit our publication. Please read it and become familiar with the variety of stories and approaches, and understand the advance nature of our deadlines.

Our thanks to this month's Media Pro Guest Columnist.
