Describe
your job.
It is my dream job! I went to Georgia State and studied Atlanta
Magazine in classes, so being able to do this is just a thrill.
I oversee the editorial content for Atlanta Magazine and its
ancillary magazines, Atlanta Magazine Home (quarterly) and
Atlanta Magazine Menus and Atlanta Magazine Shops (both annual).
My job involves planning all editorial content and covers,
working with writers, editors and art directors, and overseeing
the staffing and budget.
What
time/day is best to call?
Early in the day is best, Tuesdays and Thursdays are better.
How
do you like to be contacted? (e-mail, phone, fax, mail)
I hate faxes and don't read them. Phone is okay, but email
is always best. rburns@atlantamag.emmis.com
Which
topics are hot right now? Which are not?
Anything with a very strong ATLANTA connection - we are always
looking for PEOPLE doing fascinating things - whether saving
lives or selling shoes! We are particularly interested in
education, real estate, relationships and urban planning.
Shopping and dining are mainstays. Don't send us stuff about
national stories and celebrities that don't have an Atlanta
connection.
What's
your most memorable experience with a PR person?
I worked with a PR person for a non-profit agency to pull
around a story in two days. It was great - she helped with
what I needed and backed off when I explained the parameters
of the story.
Anything
else you'd like Atlanta's public relations industry to know?
We don't respond to bribes and we don't run "adverteditorial."
Approach us with integrity and we'll respect you and love
working with you.
Our
thanks to this month's Media Pro Guest Columnist.
